Fall Armyworm Tolerance of Maize Parental Lines, Experimental Hybrids, and Commercial Cultivars in Southern Africa

چکیده
Fall armyworm [Spodoptera frugiperda (J./E. Smith); FAW] is negatively impacting sustainable maize production, particularly in smallholder farming systems sub-Saharan Africa. Two sets of germplasm (commercial cultivars and experimental hybrids, local exotic inbred lines) were evaluated under managed natural FAW infestation to identify tolerant material with superior grain yield performance. Significant genotypic effects on foliar damage, ear observed. Commercial significantly more affected by than as evidenced high damage scores, yet they out-yielded genotypes. The introduced donor lines (CML338, CML67, CML121, CML334) showed better tolerance FAW, individually hybrid combinations. Local lines, SV1P, CML491, CML 539, also tolerance. Hybrids open pollinated varieties vulnerable at early growth stages, but grew out it through the mid late whorl stages. Inbred increasing maturity. Husk cover, rot, anthesis date, plant height highly correlated identified will contribute resistance breeding southern

Prospecting of popcorn hybrids for resistance to fall armyworm.
The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, is the pest that causes the greatest economic losses for both common corn and popcorn crops, and the use of resistant plant genotypes is an important tool for integrated pest management. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the damage caused by S. frugiperda on single-cross popcorn hybrids under field conditions with natural infestation as well...

Study of Genetic Variation and Drought Tolerance in Commercial Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) Cultivars
In order to identify drought stress tolerance in rapeseed, nine commercial rapeseed cultivars (Opera, Karaj1, Karaj2, Karaj3, Zarfam, Okapi, Talayeh, Licord and Modena) were evaluated under two conditions (normal and drought stress) in Kangavar region in the west Iran in 2014-2015 growing season. This research was carried out in a split plot experiment based on completely randomized design in f...
متن کاملFall Armyworm (lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Resistance in Texas Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, and Their Hybrids ( Poa Spp.)
The fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), is a destructive pest of many species of both C3 and C4 (cooland warm-season) turfgrass. No-choice experiments were conducted to evaluate 13 turfgrass genotypes of various Poa spp. for susceptibility or resistance to the fall armyworm. All 13 genotypes, including 8 Texas bluegrass ( Poa arachnifera Torr.), 2 Kentuck...
متن کاملEvaluation of drought tolerance in rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars and recombinant inbred lines
In order to study the adaptation of rice lines to drought stress and to identify the tolerant and sensitive lines, 150 pure lines in RIL population each derived from a cross between two Iranian rice varieties Gharib and Sepidroud were investigated. Augment design based on the randomized complete block design (RCBD) was used with 6 check cultivars and 4 replications in 2013-2014 growing season. ...
